Taste and Occasion
Such a pretty pesto flower bread is the perfect party bread, after all: It looks extraordinary and can be snacked on from many sides. Furthermore, it fits as a side dish at a buffet. And don't worry: the recipe for the pizza flower with tomato pesto and basil pesto seems much more complicated than it is.
Ingredients
If you get in trouble to make a special bread for a barbecue, you deserve a little credit, right? For the look but also the taste. Just think of twisted pesto bread as a clever mix of pizza, pull-apart bread, and nibbles. Addictiveness included. This means that the pizza flower is guaranteed to be gone faster than the barbecue stuff is ready - even though it is a great party bread. But it's just so delightfully fluffy and flavorful! The foundation of the pesto flower recipe is regular pizza dough or salty yeast dough. This is rolled out into three large circles, two of which get a pesto topping. The third is more or less the lid. In this round hoagie, you cut rays or petals - like a sun or a flower. These are then twisted slightly in pairs.
How to make the Pesto Flour Bread
Let's get started: Knead all the ingredients for the dough for 10-15 minutes with the dough hook of a food processor. Cover the pizza dough in the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rise for one hour in a warm place. Now, divide dough into thirds. Roll out each ball on the floured work surface into a large flat circle (about 10-11 in / 26-28 cm). For example, a springform pan rim can be used as a size measure.
Then, place one dough circle on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Spread with green pesto (better not to use the excess oil). Leave a small border free so that the pesto does not run out. Place the second circle on top, and brush with red pesto. Place the third circle on top. After that, place a glass or large cookie cutter (about 2.4-2.8 in / 6-7 cm) in the center of the 3-count sandwich and lightly press down the edge. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough sandwich into 12-16 equal pieces, going inside only as far as the circle.
It's time to lift two adjacent strands of dough at a time and twist them outward twice like a cord, i.e., in opposite directions, once to the right and once to the left. Put them back down and fold the ends of each two strands tightly together. Do the same with all the strands of dough.
Finally, let the pesto flower rise for another 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C. In the end, bake the pesto flower bread for about 20-25 minutes.
Top Tip
For the planning, the following notes: Since my pesto flower bread recipe is with dry yeast, you do not need a pre-dough. Of course, you still have to wait for the dough to rise. If you are in a hurry, you can make the pesto flower with ready-made pizza dough.
