But the "inner values" are also not to be neglected. The gugelhupf is a delicious marble cake-like birthday cake. I moistened the marble cake by adding some melted dark chocolate or white chocolate to the dough. With this little trick, no one needs to be afraid of the typical "crumbs-dry-cough" - you may know what I mean… On the contrary, there was even a tiny run among the guests for the last pieces of this marble cake for children's birthdays. In addition to this birthday cake recipe, you can find more inspiration on the blog, such as the happy birthday cupcakes.
How to make the Birthday Marble Cake
Firstly, preheat the oven to 360°F/180°C. Melt the dark and white chocolate separately in a hot water bath or at a low temperature in the microwave. Grease the wreath form and dust it with a bit of flour. The dough is also enough for a 9.5 in / 24 cm springform pan or an 11 in / 28 cm loaf pan. Now, beat the soft butter with the sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one by one. Stir in the flour mixed with the baking powder and a pinch of salt, and add the milk a little at a time until the dough falls from the spoon with difficulty.
After this, roughly divide the dough in half. Stir the cocoa with the dark chocolate into one half and the white chocolate into the other half. In the baking pan, spread the light dough on top of the dark dough (or the other way around) and use a fork to spiral through the dough, creating a marble pattern. Smooth the surface.
Finally, bake the cake for about 60 minutes and let it cool. Frost with liquid chocolate glaze or cake glaze. Decorate the cake with different small treats just before they set.
Top Tip
The best thing about this marble cake for kids is that you can absolutely customize it. Even though the cake base always hits the spot, you can use lemon cake, nut cake, chocolate cake, banana cake, or eggnog cake (for adults).
