Taste and Occasion
I can tell you, this recipe can be a life-saver! A movie-night and you forget supplies, unannounced guests, not enough snacks for a party, or just that little craving for something salty & delicious - this recipe can help you. Usually, you have all ingredients at home; it is super easy to make - and that just takes a few minutes. Sounds good?
This means: you start your movie night and get a craving for homemade snacks. If you hurry up, you can already start crunching when the first crime scene flickers across the screen 😉 …
Ingredients
For the basic salt cookie recipe, you fortunately also only need three basic ingredients that you usually have at home anyway: Flour (I prefer to use light spelt flour), milk, and butter. And a little salt.
Unlike plain store-bought crackers, when you make your own crackers, you also get the wonderful aroma from the oven. And you can put together your own personal favorite variety.
All kinds of salt mixtures that you like are suitable for seasoning aka topping. Or the salt mixtures that were given to you over time 😉 You know: Himalayan chili garlic salt, lemon verbena-marjoram cocoa salt. Hihi. Or just regular fleur de sel, which is sea salt.
With these wonderful 15-minute crackers, you'll finally have a use for all those hyped but not very practical mixes 😉 . The result is really delicious!
How to make the Homemade Cheese Shortbread Cookies
As the recipe is made really quickly, you can preheat the oven to 220°C / 430°F right from the start. Next, cover a baking sheet with baking paper. This is all prep work that is needed, and you can now start with the dough:
You start by putting the flour and salt in a bowl. Now, take the cold butter, cut it into small pieces, and add it to the bowl. Do the same with the milk.
As a next step, knead all the ingredients quickly into a smooth dough. You can use your machine to do this or do it with your hands. Make sure the dough is really well kneaded for a delicious result.
Once you have your dough kneaded, roll the dough out thinly on a lightly floured work surface or a baking mat. You can now cut your crackers out of the dough. I use a pastry wheel to do this, but you can also just do it with an ordinary knife or a pizza cutter.
Place your crackers on a baking sheet, sprinkle them with seasoning salt, and bake them for 8-10 minutes depending on thickness. You can also add black pepper, garlic powder or a sprinkle of olive oil to the topping - the choice is yours 😉
