Fancy some special "cookies" with a Christmas tree look? These green trees are made of a marshmallow-puffed rice mixture and are especially fun for kids!
Taste and Occasion
Today we have fancy Christmas cookies. You don't need an oven or much time to make these little Christmas trees to eat. The result - colorful marshmallow trees on a stick - is still a special eye-catcher! Which especially delight the little ones….
The great thing about the recipe: the fun Christmas cookies for kids are super healthy, sugar-free and you can make them entirely without dyes. Ok, that was a joke 😉 .
Ingredients
The foundation of the fir trees on a stick is a so-called Rice crispy mass. The Rice Krispies marshmallow treats or bars consist of regular marshmallows and puffed rice. The latter is the original Kellogg's variety. As an alternative, however, any other puffed rice is also suitable. The result: small colorful gifts for children. But of course, it's especially fun to prepare the little trees with children.
You first need to melt some butter with marshmallows and green food coloring (I recommend gel colors) for the little trees, then stir in the puffed rice. The Rice Krispie mixture goes in a springform pan in the refrigerator. Then cut it into eighths and decorate it nicely. Necessary in all steps: grease! Both the springform pan, including the baking paper and your hands need a little oil or baking spray: The mass is sooooo sticky before cooling 😉 . No wonder with the ingredients of the funny cookies.
How to make the Christmas Trees Rice Krispie Treats
Let's get started with this colorful Christmas treat! First of all, cover the bottom of a small springform pan (8 in/ 20 cm) with baking paper and additionally grease the bottom and edges, e.g. with baking spray or oil. Now, melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the marshmallows in small pieces (or use mini marshmallows right away) and melt or dissolve over low heat while stirring. Stir in a few drops of green color.
Then, remove from heat and stir in the puffed rice, so everything is evenly coated. Use a little more or less if necessary. Immediately (!) pour the mixture into the prepared mold and press down with greased hands. Caution: the mixture is very sticky! In the end, chill the springform pan for 30 minutes, then cut into eight "trees". Carefully push a wooden stick into each tree from the bottom and decorate as desired. Enjoy!
Top Tip
The trees look especially pretty if you use colorful puffed rice instead of regular puffed rice.
For coloring the mass, I recommend gel colors.

For decorating
- sugar sprinkles
- food coloring
Instructions
- Cover the bottom of a small springform pan (8 in/ 20 cm) with baking paper and additionally grease the bottom and edges, e.g. with baking spray or oil.
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the marshmallows in small pieces (or use mini marshmallows right away) and melt or dissolve over low heat while stirring. Stir in a few drops of green color.
- Remove from heat. Stir in the puffed rice, so everything is evenly coated. Use a little more or less if necessary. Immediately (!) pour the mixture into the prepared mold and press down with greased hands. Caution: the mixture is very sticky!
- Chill springform pan for 30 minutes, then cut into eight "trees". Carefully push a wooden stick into each tree from the bottom and decorate as desired.
Notes
- You can also distribute the decoration of the trees before the cooling time on the mass. So stick sugar balls etc even better. For this, it is best to divide the round mass in the springform pan with a knife slightly into eighths. After the cooling time, cut completely.
- Store in an airtight tin in a cool, dark place and eat within a few days.
Ingredient substitutions
Variations
Those who have been following me for a while know that I like to bake something healthier. Also and especially for kids - like with the healthier cookies for kids or sugar-free oatmeal cookies. In the Christmas season, however, it may be sometimes lusher. Admittedly: I rather look at the Rice Krispie marshmallow treats instead of eating them. With the words of our neighbor: For adult palates, the little trees are a bit challenging 😉
